Dora Sedgwick Hazard was the founder of the Solvay Guild, which studied child health work and established a hospital fund for needy cases. She was also an active member of the women’s suffrage movement, organized the Women’s Political Union to fight for women’s rights, and served as that organization’s president until suffrage was gained.
